A mission composed of several experts from the various stakeholders involved in the project (CDC, AUZAR Energy ,SEEG) travelled for two weeks (from 10 to 20 October 2018) through the interior of the country with the objective of identifying sites likely to house future solar power plants and carrying out quality controls and tests, seven pilot cities are involved in this vast project. Booué, Ovan, Makokou, Mékambo, Minvoul, Medouneu and Ndjolé.

This project aims to partially replace thermal energy production with solar production systems, and will result in a 30% reduction in SEEG's fuel consumption, with a significant impact on the balance of its operations and the quality of customer service.

For our country, which is committed to combating the negative effects of climate change and protecting the environment, a carbon footprint of around 2000 tonnes of CO2 should increase as the project is extended to other cities. The structure of this project provides that the solar power plants that will deliver a combined total energy capacity of nearly 2 megawatts will be owned by CDC and operated by SEEG under a 15-year contract. Start of work in four months for a total duration of less than one year.

It should be noted that this intervention by CDC as an investor and developer in the energy sector is in line with its mission to support public policies in priority sectors. "This is a pioneering project in Central Africa that confirms the leadership of the President of the Republic, ALI BONGO ONDIMBA, in terms of environmental protection in achieving an energy mix largely dominated by renewable energies, including solar energy," said Herman NZOUNDOU BIGNOUMBA, Director General of the CDC, at the ceremony to sign contracts for the construction and commissioning of solar power plants last August.
