On Friday 16 November 2018, in the margins of the 2nd edition of the CDG International Seminar for Africa, which is being held in Rabat, Morocco from 13 to 16 November 2018, the Managing Director of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, Mr Herman NZOUNDOU BIGNOUMBA, met with Mr Bernardo BINI SMAGHI, Secretary General of the World Forum of the Caisse de Dépôt.

During this meeting, Mr. BINI SMAGHI shared his vision to position the Forum as:

• A platform of common vehicles and instruments established between the members of the Forum, that raise funds from multilateral institutions to finance joint projects;
• A tool to support young and emerging caisses, as well as caisse creation projects.

The Forum works to promote the affirmation and development of the main and essential business of deposit banks, which is the mobilization of savings and its security, the foundation of the robustness of their model.

To implement this vision, Mr. BINI SMAGHI presented to Mr. NZOUNDOU possible inter-caisse mechanisms for pooling efforts in the mobilization of international private savings.

The two interlocutors also discussed issues of collaboration and cooperation in technical assistance and experience sharing.

The World Forum of Deposit Banks was launched in January 2011 and has 11 members.

The forum is intended to be a platform for exchanging experiences and developing common lines of thought to address major economic challenges: the economic model of the Caisses de dépôt, the identification of common investment issues, and technical support for Caisses in creation or development.

The 11 members of the World Forum of Deposit Banks:

• 8 operating funds: Brazil, France, Gabon, Italy, Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia;
• 2 legally created Deposit Banks: Cameroon, Congo ;
• 1 Caisse Autonome d'Amortissement : Benin.
